5 Year Anniversary:theMIND on self love, Chicago artists and relationships that were broken

wo Time Grammy Award Winner, @themind , sits down with us during our 5 year anniversary live interview at @dopedripcafe . theMIND & I revisit our old conversations while also discussing our struggles with self-love, broken relationships, childhood trauma, and working with some of Chicago’s best artists.

In his unreleased song, “Legendary Crashout,” theMIND says, “Would u prefer if i was wearing a ****** costume / Parading around wearing this frown upside pretending to be something I’m not / I ain’t been happy in a while i do this **** for the plot,” theMIND’s self-awareness when it comes to his emotional state took years to realize. Often, we function in functional-freezes, fully believing that everything is okay until one day the dysfunction in our lives becomes too clear to ignore. Whether this is struggles with our temperament, physical changes, or just a lack of passion. We are in control of chaining the circumstances we feel chained to. theMIND did just that when he realized superman wasn’t coming to save him.

Also discussed: trauma experienced while growing up in foster care, meaning of “Out of Nowhere,” & not pretending to be happy for others.
